I don't know. My feeling on the newest version is that part 1 was a good retelling that was pretty close to the source material, and part 2 deviated in ways so disappointing that I will probably not waste my time on part 3 or whatever the next installment is named.

The first Dune was really gross compared to the last couple of Dunes; haven’t seen the new one… But the 1st one is gross… Which made it interesting to watch…

I’ve found that the “SpiceDiver” re-edit of the 1984 DUNE does wonders for the film, combining the theatrical version with the TV cut, but reordering and remixing things, as well as some general VFX updates that make sense… It’s a much more coherent and watchable film in this form…

Thank you for putting the 1984 version in context, especially regarding its meddlesome producer; that certainly explains a lot. I love Villeneuve's adaptation, and I am grateful he was able to make the films with his directorial discretion at its zenith.

I forgot about the De Laurentiis role in the 1984 film. His work - particularly in Flash Gordon - seemed cheesy and out of date to my early teenage eyes when the movie came out. And I thought sci-fi airbrushed Econolines were cool at the time.
