I joined L&O Letters at the outset when Pat Soranno was getting it up & running. She was very proactive in seeking recommendations with an eye on diversity in geography, career stage, expertise, etc. Jim Cloern has followed her lead and actively seeks recommendations from the current board.

Yep, it takes someone with a specific eye and network to really change the status quo on these things. We're hoping to make it transparent to people about how to get involved in the AE service but making it application-based, as well.
