I see "I wear a mask everywhere and still got covid" posts pop up on social media, and I wonder how many of them fit this category. It's unfortunate because I think those posts cause a lot of doubt and anxiety for folks :(

I got COVID at WorldCon despite masking. Being the only one masked in a room (or anywhere without proper airflow/filtration) improves your odds, but doesn't guarantee anything. Venues need to improve ventilation; events need to encourage proper masking, which DOES reduce spread.

Yeah, I bet that’s a big part of it. “I wear a mask everywhere” but you’ve got it stuck below your chin or you’ve got gaps big enough to drive a truck through… and then you tell everyone that masks don’t work anyway…
