I'm pretty curious. Among my fellow game devs, how many of you make the verbal distinction between hitboxes and hurtboxes? Among fighting game players/devs it seems pretty common but among FPS gamers not so much.
Almost literally none, but Ive never worked on fighting games For one, traditionally FPS collision is very often sphere/ray casts against the hitbox of the entity, and not box vs box like fighting games are Thats starting to change, though I almost daily tell folks how to avoid bullets 1/2
All the time but I have worked on fighting games before. :o
Never used or even heard "hurtbox" before. I guess it's for a collider that applies damage on overlap? We had quite the discussion once about the meaning of "hit" after it was used for "to hit" and "being hit" all over the place and it caused so much confusion between designers and programmers.
It’s a 1vs1 fighting game specific thing, I think. Most games don’t need hurtboxes
I've started to use it, as I've got a project with a strong focus on melee weapons. I'm my case the hitboxes aren't colliders, but a line of sphere casts: bsky.app/profile/taco...
