Absolutely fair if that doesn’t work for you. I’m looking forward to seeing what their user-powered moderation looks like but if it’s no good, I’m guessing many more will leave, myself included.

I haven’t seen 35k people asking for that. Banning somebody needs to a decision made against a repeatable test that produces meaningful insight otherwise it’s just people getting banned on a whim. For the cases where you disagree, the block button is there. It’s highly imperfect.

Moderation comes down to the quantifiable and repeatable assessment of highly contextual qualitative data. It’s not an easy thing to get right, which is why bluesky is trying to champion user-led moderation practices. These aren’t ready yet but they still don’t want to overstep the lines they drew.

I’m not okay with it at all. There are many things in life I’m not okay with but I have to live with. I have control over exactly one person’s presence on this platform. The bsky team have more control and I don’t envy the position they’re in.

They’ve outlined pretty plainly the moderation tools that they’re building and also what is possible under the federated network. If that doesn’t suit you or is insulting, nobody is forcing you to be here. This place has a lot of flaws atm and will keep improving throughout beta.
