Like Brexit, a policy of leaving the ECHR would split the Tory party Like Brexit, there is no consensus on what would replace it, beyond nebulous references to the common law or Raab’s fatuous Bill of Rights It would breach the Good Friday Agreement It could only weaken the protection of rights

Brexit has shown the electoral power of a wedge issue with strong appeal to authoritarians, and it seems they - or at least some of them - want more of that. All other issues are secondary (and some genuinely believe in reomoving human rights for a variety of ignorant and/or malicious reasons).

I still think anyone advocating leaving the ECHR should first have to declare which of their own human rights they are willing to sacrifice

They want to STRIP us of all our rights. The tories are split, destroyed really. What's next for them is to merge with putin's refuk puppets to become one big russian puppet party. And the turnip, being a human rights lawyer (unbelievably) doesn't believe in human rights.

I see what you mean but Brexit didn't split the tory party. The "moderates" capitulated at every stage. I can't see any evidence that wouldn't happen this time either.

Yes, weakening rights is a Tory specialty. Human beings don't need rights do they? They just need to be told what to do, and then die if they get inconvenient. George Orwell was a clever man with incredible vision for the vulgarity of human abuses. He foresaw how we live today. How do we remedy this

People like Jenrick also seem to be unaware that, as a consequence, we would have to leave the Council of Europe - exactly the kind of intergovernmental organisation Brexiters used to claim they wanted the EU to be.

Tory UK vision is toxic to the inhabitants.

Jenrick plans to require members of the Shadow Cabinet to sign up to leaving ECHR. Earlier all leadership candidates said they would serve under whoever wins. Is this still the case?

I think you're underestimating Tory insanity/fanaticism. 1. Split - really? Tories with sense/backbones all long gone. 2. Lack of a plan didn't stop them on Brexit. 3. GFA - they simply don't care. If they had the power to do this, they would do it. They've shown us who they are. Believe them.

The whole point of ECHR is to protect the individual’s human rights from Government. Seen as necessary after fascism in Europe. Individual cannot have the same protection if the Government controls the definition of human rights.
