Brexit has shown the electoral power of a wedge issue with strong appeal to authoritarians, and it seems they - or at least some of them - want more of that. All other issues are secondary (and some genuinely believe in reomoving human rights for a variety of ignorant and/or malicious reasons).

Yes, weakening rights is a Tory specialty. Human beings don't need rights do they? They just need to be told what to do, and then die if they get inconvenient. I think you're underestimating Tory insanity/fanaticism. 1. Split - really? Tories with sense/backbones all long gone. 2. Lack of a plan didn't stop them on Brexit. 3. GFA - they simply don't care. If they had the power to do this, they would do it. They've shown us who they are. Believe them.

The whole point of ECHR is to protect the individual’s human rights from Government. Seen as necessary after fascism in Europe. Individual cannot have the same protection if the Government controls the definition of human rights.
