Imagine looking around the landscape of higher ed, at the conditions that are shaping our ability to teach honestly and our students' ability to learn meaningfully, and saying "you know what? We should reduce the number of student accommodations." I mean, what the fuck /8

At lastā€¦Anotherā€™s heartbeat
by Marcellus Williams who was murdered by the state of Missouri on September 24, 2024

the silhouettes of their bond visible at the last glow of the sun
they experience each other and the life of the night as it begins to stir
standing there in silence holding hands
no rush to go back inside
there is so much beauty and comfort in being in love and just beingā€¦
ā€”amidst sounds of buzzing
chirps
crickets
the pleasant but irregular blowing of the wind
fireflies dancing in step with the light of the moon
how strange it is to become aware of anotherā€™s heartbeat but forget oneā€™s ownā€”
finally love

It's currently Banned Books Week and I'd love to use this moment to remind you that book bans aren't about the books. They're about silencing marginalized people (and creating the permission structure for their harm) and defunding institutions of public learning.

What's happened to higher ed is a choice. We could stop funnelling money to the 1% and invest in education like we used to (look at how we did so pre-Reagan). We don't have a resource problem, we have an allocation problem. We need to stop allowing failed, unjust policies to be "just the way it is"

itā€™s funny that cyberlibertarians spent so much time worrying about government surveillance then private tech companies went ahead and build the most invasive and extensive surveillance apparatus weā€™ve ever known out of the thing the they promised would liberate us all

Billionaire Larry Ellison says a vast AI-fueled surveillance system can ensure 'citizens will be on their best behavior'
