For sure, and specifically the particular precipice of punk and pop they were perched on. Punk’s funny, too a certain kind of guy (like me) punk as a genuine period aesthetic still feels cool as hell, but if I saw someone trying to earnestly pull it off today it would feel off, ersatz, probably lame
Green Day is good, but the backlash was predetermined. Most things that huge are going to feel cringe and suffer cultural backlash 20 years later, the alternative is that we’ve entirely culturally stagnated. But I agree with you, it’s important to separate the merit from the current moment.
Guess it’s time to start getting the Hoyas thing going over here
