Momo was SO lucky to be cared for at home by my mother and me right up to the end. But it nearly wrecked us b/c the home supports have to be fought for. And I’ve seen family members who would have benefited by remaining in their own homes but their family couldn’t/wouldn’t care for them

There really isn't enough done for respite, home support, and pain management at the end of life. To alleviate those stresses for all would be life changing. I remember so well what you and your mom had to face as you cared for Momo.

It’s not easy either way. The days of the elderly person at home b/c someone is always there to be with them is gone. There used to be the “Cailleach bed” in the old houses. A bed in the kitchen nestled by the open range/fire where the old woman of the family slept surrounded by a curtain
