Iāve made my peace with the fact that if my mother ever needs full time care, Iāll have to get as many grants etc I can & keep her home. Nursing home care would mean me taking out a loan on the house. And no guarantee Iād get her a nursing home locally. Or a good one. Elder care is a crap shoot
Itās not easy either way. The days of the elderly person at home b/c someone is always there to be with them is gone. There used to be the āCailleach bedā in the old houses. A bed in the kitchen nestled by the open range/fire where the old woman of the family slept surrounded by a curtain
Momo was SO lucky to be cared for at home by my mother and me right up to the end. But it nearly wrecked us b/c the home supports have to be fought for. And Iāve seen family members who would have benefited by remaining in their own homes but their family couldnāt/wouldnāt care for them
I only discovered today that this book exists and have a library reserve on it. From the age of 12, I was a devout Smash Hits reader & itās now I realise just how influential his writing was on how I write & read today. The non reverential asides, the interview style, I revelled in it.
Paint markers! But of course! No having to hastily use hairdryers on them with paint markers. Oh this is becoming a plan!
Did you paint this? Itās gorgeous! Because our Halloween guide meeting is on a bank holiday weekend Friday, weāre never at full numbers so maybe this year weāll paint pumpkins. (Thank you for reminding me of this activity!)
Not content with having one issue, thereās going to be a second. Yours truly has submitted a story. Mark your calendars!
Exciting!
Oh that film. I saw it in the cinema & it haunted me. Still does a bit. Poor Ofelia. A line thatās always stuck with me is Mercedes telling the Captain āyour son will not even know your nameā. She said it like a stabbing. If that makes sense.
Oh did we ever.
