this automatically disqualifies any trans person who was born in a state where name & gender changes to birth certificates are illegal (maybe not where they live now) & legally changed their name after that law passed. which is…over 20 states now? keep me honest, but i don’t think that’s wrong.
Question: doesn’t Real ID count as proof of citizenship? I have an odd paper trail for my gov’t name beyond just marriages, but I do have a Real ID.
I hate them so much. Not as much as they hate democracy...but close.
even in california i believe they wont actually update your original birth certificate but keep it and attach an amendment noting the change, so its unclear even in a state that ostensibly allows birth certificate changes if one could vote
>>laughs in trans adoptee<< What birth certificate?
This is wild. Birth certificate? So the GOP basically wants to eliminate as many voters as they can
Looks like we keep our names ladies
Closest information I could find re: birth certificates of state of birth (which as you say, might not be the one the person lives in now): 7 states don't allow for gender to be changed at all. Some (12 states?) may require "proof of surgery" first. www.lgbtmap.org/equality-map...
These maps outline ID laws and policies for updating gender markers on driver's licenses and birth certificates, as well as legal requirements for name changes by state.
can you legally change your name on your birth certificate? aggressively maybe! in many states, like alabama, after you’ve jumped a lot of expensive hoops, it’s up to the judge’s discretion.
