I know that even after I figured things out in late 2019, that exact fear kept me from starting HRT until April of ‘23 because I wanted to get my head straight and make sure this wasn’t some mental breakdown manifesting itself. If I had only started sooner. Even now I still deal with that fear.

Thank you, and for what it's worth I'm glad for you as well. Since starting, my temper has sort of cooled, sort of not, but I'm not holding on to things and brooding like I used to. I'm even actually dipping my toe into optimism as opposed to pessimism or naked pragmatism. It's kinda nice. :)
Even worse, I would wager it's all about the money. By gatekeeping, the medical community keeps their malpractice insurance premiums down because people are shitbirds and would totally go after them for "transitioner's remorse" (and BOY HOWDY do I hate that I came up with that term).

Fuckin' SAME, sister. Fuckin' SAME. By the time I started I had accumulated somewhere around 40+ years of quiet self-loathing that was building pressure like a dam about to break. Sticking fingers in it only helped briefly. HRT was the super-bonding agent that fixed the cracks before they burst.
