Not only did Mel Brooks give us Young Frankenstein in 1974 he also released the classic Blazing Saddles (which went to #1 in the box office and Young Frankenstein was #4 in 74), sadly I think neither film would be made today.

We wear orange shirts today to commemorate this time of shame, and to commit to the reparations and reconciliation deserved by the survivors and their descendants. And why Orange shirts? For Phyllis.

A picture of a young girl of Indigenous heritage.
Phyllis (Jack) Webstad's
Story Part 1
"I went to the Mission for one school year in 1973/1974. I had just turned 6 years old. I lived with my grandmother on the Dog Creek reserve. We never had very much money, but somehow my granny managed to buy me a new outfit to go to the Mission school.
I remember going to Robinson's store and picking out a shiny orange shirt. It had string laced up in front, and was so bright and exciting - just like I felt to be going to school!
When I got to the Mission, they stripped me, and took away my clothes, including the orange shirt! I never wore it again. I didn't understand why they wouldn't give it back to me, it was mine! The color orange has always reminded me of that and how my feelings didn't matter, how no one cared and how I felt like I was worth nothing. All of us little children were crying and no one cared."

When I joined mom and Dale in the Pocono Mountains in 1967, I played folk guitar. That made me popular in the girl's dorm where the servers at Pocono Manor Inn lived in the summer. I played folk guitar from 1965 to 1974 and bass guitar from 1997-2000 in two church "praise" bands.

The Driver’s Seat aka Identikit (1974). Elizabeth Taylor film like no other. Very European, very unhinged, very good.

Elizabeth Taylor as Lise applying heavy make up to those massive eyes of hers.

FPTP only comes in 1885. 2 party politics as "normal" only really existed 1945-1974. Which is actually quite normal. The only stable 2 party FTPT systems double up with Presidents (US, Korea and Taiwan).

Can remember the storming of the empty Centre Point back in 1974 by protesters over housing for homeless. Labour Camden Council had tried unsuccessfully to acquire the building for that purpose. We'd the 3 day week as well & then we London NALGO lot went on strike too. www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-engl....

This song was actually written in 1974. Sent as a demo to EMI, who rejected them. 8 yrs later became a hit for them.
