I can’t help but add that it may be that we work in very different fields. Most humanities faculty need a book between covers at the time of tenure evaluation these days, and I think that’s absurd on its face.

How long is long enough? I had one book on sub for 18 months before it sold, and I can't tell if it was absurd to persevere that long (but it worked out! Better than we expected) since people only ever talk about the fast sales! Or say "yeah, it took ages, it must have been a whole three months" 😆
