In #CoreMaths#MathsToday we were discussing VAT. We got on to talking about cases where VAT has been in the news (eg the pasty tax in 2012, and the jaffa cakes "are they biscuits or cakes?" tribunal of 1991) Obviously none of the students remembered these, because they were 4 years old in 2012 ๐คฃ
Demand curves with #CoreMaths#MathsToday. I donโt really understand why lots of the examples plot price against demand, but then ask for the optimum selling price. Surely if the selling price is what you can control, this should be on the horizontal axis?
Anybody have some good places to go for #coremaths resources? I'm actually doing maths in context and using some GCSE resources for skills practise, but need more applied questions in a style that's not too challenging
In #CoreMaths#MathsToday we finished off the APR topic, looking at multiple repayments with some unknown. The biggest challenge is find with this type of group is the wide range of prior experience - some students with 4-5 or 8-9 in GCSE Maths, and some who haven't studied any maths in over a year.
What do #CoreMaths students and teachers make of the hours on this flyer? Is it clearer than alternatives?
