Reading The Wildsea expansion Storm & Root, I am reminded both of how much I like the setting and how much I dislike the layout of the book. The issue for me is that it the book is laid out in landscape with two or three columns of small text like a coffee table book. It looks nice, but ugh.

Canceled my Friday night Wildsea game. I don't like canceling games that I GM, but I'm starting to learn that running a game I am not prepared for, on a Friday when I'm wiped out by a stressful week, doesn't really serve anyone's interests. Even us forever-GMs have to rest sometimes.

Definitely depends on the game, but some are very easy. The Wildsea, for example, just needs some creativity and a willingness to embrace the Weird. So long as you can describe what you're doing/planning, you don't need to know the mechanics. That's my job as GM to turn it into mechanics.

Spent the day reading the Wildsea rulebook and making like 4 fully formed character concepts that I'm excited to play (eventually)

Shoutout to Mythworks Games for sending along PDFs for the copy of The Wildsea I was delighted to pick up at my FLGS this week. I wish more (read: all) companies did that to encourage people to support their FLGS,l as their the circulatory system that keeps the hobby alive

4th edition is pretty good but it is work. Similar to Runequest IMO. Also you are right that it doesn't look as pretty as Dragonbane or The Wildsea.
