St Peter’s Church, Riga, Latvia. This beautiful church was constructed in 3 phases, the first dating to the early C13th. This was followed by major renovations & extensions in the C15th & C17th (including the building of the 136m octagonal steeple in 1491). #steeplesaturday AncientBlueSky 🏺

Too late! Caslon was later C18th. Although the design is similar to C17th fonts it’s not quite the same. (Plus Adobe Caslon doesn’t have enough different weights anyway!)

Sort of why I was asking though! I’m looking for the same thing. Most relevant revivals are either very late C17th or first half C16th. Garamond (Premier) is the closest tbh! I’m guessing English printers were using copies of French and Dutch types along those lines

Anyone know of any work done on the typefaces in use by London printers late C16th/early C17th? The everyday sorts of presses, not the prestige ones.

🕰️Time suspended in stone. Perhaps one of the most enigmatic gables in the country: St. John's Court in Malmesbury is a C17th almshouse which incorporates a beautiful C12th doorway from a former chapel on the site. #ThrowbackThursday

Anyone for "Pippen Composte"? NOT a dish of garden-composted apples (don't use those, that would be very bad), but Giles Rose's #C17th#recipe#applesorchardnotes.com/2024/09/28/g...#orchard
