Very annoyed by the spelling mistake here, but in my defence my first language is Hungarian (it is not).
The title of the painting comes from the wordplay 'Schade'.It means 'pity' in english,which is said as "kár" in hungarian.And here comes the twist: crows say "kár-kár" in hungarian, which we joke around too.So the title is not "pity the bird is dead" it is simply saying what crows say in hungarian.
It’s Bela Lugosi’s birthday, and it never fails to blow my mind to think about how the culturally ubiquitous “vampire voice” for the past 90 years is just an impression of one guy’s Hungarian accent. Not many performances have that sort of impact.
