My Dad's remaining collection of nearly 2000 books, most about parasitology, natural history, Australia, he left when he left us earlier this year. To try to see if someone wants to come and view them, I have to list them all. Wish me luck!

Hey y'all, I have a new paper in Parasitology Research about parasites in flathead fishes. In summary, they got worms all over - worms in the mouth, worms in the guts, worms in DA BALLS. It's open access, so it's free to access for everyone. 🧪 link.springer.com/article/10.1...

Helicodidymozoon helicis flukes in the buccal cavity of a dusky flathead (Platycephalus fuscus).
Three tiger flatheads (Platycephalus richardsoni) on a chopping board with a ruler and mechanical pipette in the background.

in another life (were i someone with the brains and money for academia) i would love to work in parasitology. i just love parasites i think they are really neat. and disgusting. and sincerely terrifying. but also cute. (sets relationship status to It's Complicated)

(Admittedly, I do sometimes wonder if this happened before or after the Parasitology books got written...)

I grew up with a family member who worked in international travel medicine, in an office with a parasitology lab I think I'm broken because nothing in this story surprised me lol

I see this & all I can think of is @seananmcguire.bsky.social (Mira Grant)'s Parasitology trilogy, and how if this were a plot point (because the worm is controlling Bobby Kennedy's brain), it would have been revised for being too far-fetched.

That’s an undergrad that’s never going into parasitology! Or that immediately is. Parasitologists are a weird breed. 🤷🏼‍♀️

15. Sal Mitchell from the Parasitology books by @seananmcguire.bsky.social . Sal doesn't know what's going on but she figures it out. She's brave and stubborn and quick thinking. This is, yes, a theme of characters that I like.

Yikes. Seems very short sighted. "A widely used parasitology and vector biology database supported by the U.S. National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) for the past 20 years is set to shut down this weekend, cutting off thousands of researchers." 🧪⚕️
