I understand the wish to ease the transition for workers. There are better ways of doing this though. Texas is using the skills of ex oil workers to drill Geothermal wells. Once drilled. These provide limitless energy forever. Much better investment of £20bn and the careers and of skilled workers ?
I think perhaps this is a plan that makes more sense to economists than environmentalists and scientists. Economists espouse ideas such as paying one group of people to dig holes and another group to fill them in as a way of creating jobs and economic growth.
Wouldn't the £20Bn be better spent on say Geothermal , solar and wind and tidal energy production and electrification of Industrial processes ?
This push for CCS seems to be a triumph of lobbying and keeping vested Interests happy over science. If they are burning hydrogen to make the glass. Where is the CO2 coming from ? Where will they store it ? How will they transport it there ? Won't all this make the product produced uncompetitive?
Plus of course the heavier a vehicle the less energy efficient. So weight based car tax is probably a good idea to incentivise people away from large SUVs in urban settings. Clearly incentives also needed to keep us moving towards greener electric cars too.
Heavier cars don't make much difference to potholes. Trucks, poor road construction, poor maintenance are the contributors. Studies show that heavier vehicles are more dangerous to others though theconversation.com/big-cars-mig...
We’re seeing more big cars on the road. What does this mean for safety?
Gentlemen, are we sure wrapping an electrical device closely round your body then going out in the rain is really a such a good idea ?
I suppose you can live without a phone line harder to live without heating, cooking . For communication Cheap PAYG SIM cards are available and there is true competition between them which keeps costs down. Any thoughts/ideas on the fairness of water charges ?
Money saving expert sets out the reasons Standing Charges should be reduced better than me - blog.moneysavingexpert.com/2023/07/mart....
Outrageously, most people will pay £300 per year just for the facility of having gas and electricity, even if you don't use any. This is due to the high energy standing (daily) charges. These are a
