I understand the wish to ease the transition for workers. There are better ways of doing this though. Texas is using the skills of ex oil workers to drill Geothermal wells. Once drilled. These provide limitless energy forever. Much better investment of £20bn and the careers and of skilled workers ?

I think perhaps this is a plan that makes more sense to economists than environmentalists and scientists. Economists espouse ideas such as paying one group of people to dig holes and another group to fill them in as a way of creating jobs and economic growth.

Wouldn't the £20Bn be better spent on say Geothermal , solar and wind and tidal energy production and electrification of Industrial processes ?

This push for CCS seems to be a triumph of lobbying and keeping vested Interests happy over science. If they are burning hydrogen to make the glass. Where is the CO2 coming from ? Where will they store it ? How will they transport it there ? Won't all this make the product produced uncompetitive?
