> $600k for 18 kw? I know it's a pilot project, but what accounts for that monumental cost? Seems like the cool opportunity here is to inject power right into the railway catenary and avoid costly interconnection, but the article makes it sound like it's just a regular grid tied system.

Last week I shared a survey showing more than 9 in 10 EV drivers would never go back to petrol or diesel cars. I was told by some that the survey was biased because it was facilitated by Fully Charged. Well here’s another one this time from RAC. Same result. www.rac.co.uk/drive/news/e...

90% of EV owners won’t switch back to petrol or diesel | RAC Drive

Hi, dataviz expert here! You might think this type of graphic is cute, but statistics only act this way when they are EXTREMELY MANIPULATED. If you make these time periods the same, the discrepancy between the numbers would basically go away. Do better

This is the #blockchain business I am most intrigued by. You can buy both concrete blocks and chain link fence in one place. I should never have doubted those people who said this would be transformative.

Also, southern Maine NWS site is in Gray, not Portland.

Thermal energy storage doesn’t get enough attention. The world’s thermal storage facility currently being built in Finland will be able to store a whopping 90GWh - that’s 30x more than the largest electric storage facility in operation today. interestingengineering.com/energy/caver...

The Varanto project design comprises three caverns, each measuring over 900 feet (300 m) long, 131 feet (40 m) high, and 65 feet (20 m) wide.

My favourite chart is this one; investment in renewables reached $623 billion in 2023 and is rising steadily. But it needs to average $1 trillion between 2024 and 2030, plus investment in grids and storage.

A chart, Figure 7 in the BloombergNEF report Unlocking Investment to Triple Renewables published in September 2024, of energy investment. It shows renewables, storage and grid investment only and shows an increase from 2020 to 2023, but further investment needed to 2030. After that it flattens out a bit at around $1.5-2 trillion a year.
