The thing no one wants to admit is that a cadre of credible experts almost always warn of disaster before it strikes. No one acts because it is more expedient and more short-term(!) profitable to ignore the messenger. Hell, punish the messenger, if the public will let you get away with it!

It's symptomatic of the harm done by the larger "wellness movement" (which predates covid), through which so many ppl reject medical interventions they find confusing/intimidating for a DIY "you have the power within you" approach that increases *feelings* of self efficacy at the expense of health.

I still haven't got over seeing some of the smartest people I know be absolutely 180 degrees wrong on covid e.g. talking unmasked about their infection as a helpful "natural booster"

New large study finds COVID may increase risk of heart attacks and strokes for three years after infection. Unlike other infections, the elevated heart risks from infection did not appear to diminish over time, a striking finding that the researchers say is "unique to COVID."

A finding unique to Covid-19
The elevated heart risks from infection did not appear to diminish over time, the study found.

“There’s no sign of attenuation of that risk,” said study author Dr. Stanley Hazen, who chairs the department of Cardiovascular & Metabolic Sciences at the Cleveland Clinic. “That’s actually one of the more interesting, I think, surprising findings.”

That finding is striking and seems to be unique to Covid-19, said Dr. Patricia Best, a cardiologist at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, who was not involved in the research.

“We have known for some time that infections raise your risk of having a heart attack, so that if you have influenza, if you get any kind of infection … whether it’s bacterial or viral, that increases your risk of having a heart attack,” Best said. “But it generally goes away pretty quickly after your infection.

“This is just such a large effect, and I think it’s just because of how different Covid is than some of the other infections,

A redheaded woman in armour sits on a rocky outcropping. She is opening a small box, from which a star-speckled spirit emerges.

I am begging people to understand that the Biden policy on the border, and the one Harris keeps messaging she will continue and expand, is to make it *easier* for refugees to enter and stay in the country in a well documented and quiet way that undermines Trumpist attacks about "weak borders".
