Utterly baffled by our local police force's objections to new cycle parking because it will mean more bike theft. I am now going to assume that they're going to object to new shops cos they'll create more shoplifting, and new housing cos more burglaries. Oh and new roads, cos more speeding.

When it comes to US power sector emissions, the closing of coal plants lowers emissions, and the deployment of wind, solar, and storage in substitution preserves those lower emissions. Increased use of NG in the power sector does not lower emissions.

When people think about leading countries in renewable energy they rarely think about Lithuania. The country has now reached a whopping 60% of wind + solar as a share of total electricity generation making it number 3 in the world. In 2012 gas still supplied 64% of Lithuania's electricity.

I propose we define "long-duration energy storage" as anything where the cost of the energy capacity is decoupled from that of the power capacity, and more energy capacity can be added cheaply. Usually this will be where you fill a big tank or other vessel with something.

Fully agree. "Cheaply" being critical here hence vanadium always being hard to reconcile as an investor.

As I have argued for the best part of a decade now, those who describe xenophobia and/or racism as the product of “legitimate concerns” are, by rhetorical construction, legitimising both the underlying prejudices and the downstream actions that they might (and have) lead to.

Amazing public service science here. Using a nuke against a hurricane is obviously a stupid idea but "because it wouldn't be anywhere near powerful enough" was not top of my list of reasons why. 👏👏 NOAA!
