Those who witnessed a solar eclipse during childhood are more likely to become scientists In this paper, they analyze the role of solar eclipses (as inexplicable phenomena in pre-modern times) in human social development. (paper) academic.oup.com/ej/advance-a... 🧪

Diamond Ring effect at the end of totality in Oregon during the solar eclipse of August 21, 2017. Some prominences can also be seen along the edges. Location: Polk County Fairgrounds, Rickreall, OR.

Pst, the end of the semester is not a bad time to share with students resources they can use to network, find mentors, and find community. Groups like Científico Latino, Latinas in STEM, SACNAS, AISES, Disabled Academic Collective, sisterSTEM, VanguardSTEM, and discipline-specific ones.

Money always helps, but for the poorest, one large lump sum can last a long time. A long-term universal basic income also looks promising.

one of the worst things that the trauma of racism in academia does to you is that you can't sit through a single DEI-related session without your body going into fight or flight for the entire hour as you wait for something harmful to be said by one of your colleagues.

Neuro spicy folks! RE: yesterday’s convo, can we start a thread of your fav tips, tools, coping mechanisms, etc. for anxiety & task paralysis? Anything, ex. a time management strategy, an app you like for organization, a book that helped you, a DBT worksheet you use, a tidbit your therapist told you
