Meta's "no politics allowed" stance is 1) itself a political position, and 2) so impossible to enforce that it's instead a perverse guarantee that what political content does surface will be absolutely deranged, in that the algorithms will be unable to identify it as conventionally political
I'm an immigration lawyer. My work is inherently political. And so I must submit to bizarre, extra amounts of verification in order to make mundane posts on my law firm website. In contrast, some grifter can just yammer on about vaccines and microchips and the Taylor Swift psy-op unimpeded.
Every election cycle they find new ways to help with suppression of voter turnout and factual information about the lies of the right wing. They are making themselves a greater force for evil and irrelevant to normal people.
As Skunk Anansie told us, "yes it's fucking political, everything's political!"
I used to post on a forum with a "no politics or religion" rule. What that meant in reality was "conservative American Christianity isn't really politics OR religion, it's just normal stuff, but nobody else can talk about their own normal stuff".
Either that or so conservative, in the status quo preserving sense, that anyone with power won't recognize it as politics.
Everything is life is (made) political. There is very little you can do without being affected by laws, rules and regulations. What a ridiculous stance.
The company that aggressively punishes criticizing Israel bills itself as "no politics allowed".
Can't wait for the inevitable problem of "trans person posting about being trans" being considered inherently political and thus all trans people get deboosted by default. 🙃 (Eventually expanding to far more than just trans people, ofc)
The implementation has been through them stopping trying to be a Tik Tok clone. Deemphasizing Reels. So in addition to trying to silence the Power-To-The-People types, they're also strangling the business of OF content creators.
What a stupid idea.
