Sports illustrated is gone, the messenger imploded, vice is toast, and Google is removing its news tab that was already littered with AI articles. It’s hard not to see this all as a broad based attack on all journalism
oh please, deindexing is what they said they wanted
Also Meta is making sure political info is limited on Threads
It's not like corporate media had any value other than propaganda anyway. The combination of removing The Fairness Doctrine (Reagan), The Telecommunications Act of 1996 (Clinton), and Obama repealing the Smith-Mundt Act which prevented the government from lying to us all made the news worthless. 👍
Journalism mostly died the second capital got involved. This is just late stage capitalism hitting that industry. We shouldn't have let a handful of rich people be in charge of it all oops.
The internet age started off with so much promise didn’t it. And now? Uh oh too much knowledge being circulated gotta clamp down
It’s not an attack. It’s a failure to adapt digital and Craigslist and then committing to the idea that BS attracts an audience. And BS is easily obtained, who needs TV or legacy media. They obsoleted themselves.
I did not like this discovery this morning. I thought it was just me formulating a query that didn’t hit news. Hate to see it’s worse than that
I suspect this is more to do with Google testing if having the News tab is worth the price of the Link taxes that very governments have been considering/enacting on News articles. (Google has consistently argued it's the Publisher who benefits from the excerpts+ links )
I guess next step is to call a YouTube video a reliable source. 🫥
AI however is just ULTRA-enshittification. People won't read it, it's like eating cotton. At some point, this whole miserable experience will have to school people on the value of talented human hard-work and curating. Why read crap when there are people like Christo Grosev around?
