That’s amazing about your grandparents’ letters! I’ve never found anything so personal as hair, only photos, news articles, and samples of fabric for clothes. These are from a married couple I don’t know. They were from NJ, where I live, and he was a Marine who saw combat. Lovely stationery too.

Woman Maker Wednesday: a new thing I just made up. This evening dress was made in 1867 by Marie and Josephine Virfolet, high-end dressmakers in NYC. Unfortunately, that's about the extent of what we know about them! Like many #19thc#FashionHistory

A ca. 1867 evening dress of pale blue silk satin, trimmed with stripes of white satin cut on the bias. The front of the skirt is covered with rows of ruched white tulle.

1859 French book about geology. What an incredible piece of art this cover is! #19thc #bibliophile#antiques 🗃️

Gold book cover with incredible pink and white floral design that covers the whole cover in an intricate pattern. In the center of the front is a beautiful painting of a small person under an enormous tree in a natural setting. The center of the back cover has a design with a rectangular pink border and a larger bouquet version of the pink flowers in the center.
