In Pravin Gordhan South Africa has lost a model public servant, to whom we likely owe a major debt of gratitude (that things did not get even worse in the lost decade). www.dailymaverick.co.za/article/2024...
Pravin Gordhan died during the early hours of Friday, 13 September. South Africa's servant of the people is no more.

❤️. If I ever have such a role I will do the same. Sorry I did not see you at APSA! If I'd known there was an outdoors event (APCG?) I would have tried to show my (masked) face... I just assumed all the happy hours etc. would be in crowded bars.
That's a good point -- they could for sure have added some more communication/masks/etc. Would love to add a CUP sponsored N95 to my collection!
There are only 4 real mitigations available: clean air, vaccinations, proper masks, nasal sprays. Conference organizers can't do much about 2-4 (that's on us), but they could do much better at promoting 1. That means HEPA filtration, meals and meetings in outdoor spaces, open windows, etc.
That APSR paper was lousy research... And what I said that if we come up with something, and we are working on things, we're gonna do it and improve it... I told my people, the top people I have a lot of good ones, we read about the bad ones, we had some real bad ones too - but let me just explain -
I'm one of the most respected men. They call me a strong man. I'm a tough person. Smart.
In defense of me being absolutely insane, let me talk about Viktor Orban
