Excellent thread. Soft magic systems work great for books but games have to have defined rules. I wonder how much D&D has influenced this hard magic system tendency?
Gave up reading a well-known pundit’s grudging endorsement of Harris after the usual accusations of vacuous incompetence, DEI hire, etc. Will note this, which I said on stage as a special guest on @mollyjongfast.bsky.social’s podcast. Biden dropped out 10 weeks ago as of Sunday.
Biden had long been underperforming with a critical part of the Democratic base: young voters. When Harris stepped up, there was strong anecdotal evidence that this would turn around. Now we have some real data, and it’s very good news for Democrats. My write-up in the replies.
We just drove through Michigan and saw a surprising number of Harris signs but would have been thrilled to see more.
It’s allll about the early game, raising your heirs right, marrying right, the right traits, and “playing tall.” I’ll do quick thread here! #CrusaderKings3
I'm not sure if this will convince anyone new, but I want - after all the back and forth - to present the grounds for my negative judgement of Sparta at its simplest: The real contention here is that Sparta was an unusually - perhaps uniquely - unfree society. (Cross-post from Birdsite) 1/
Please refer to this so that we all, as a group, can rightfully and knowledgeably shit on Sparta and consequently those who describe themselves as modern day Spartans
Yeah, the NYT continues to ignore its serious problems while also recognizing the root cause.
I've said it before, & I'll say it again: the Electoral College does not advantage small states, it advantages *closely divided* states. The ten smallest states are all basically uncompetitive, while the swing states in 2024 include 4 of the 10 most populous. Only NV is even in the bottom half.
