Whhyyyyy can't my bus just go in a straight line? It would probably cut my trip time in half.

This is a fundamental challenge for incorporating community input into transportation planning. People are experts at their lived experiences. They are terrible at predicting how that experience might change if the system changed.

You are absolutely right, there are lots of flaws in traditional transportation planning practices, including the MUTCD. It's the "vibes" dismissal that irritates me. Like, "nah, that just doesn't make sense, based on my two seconds of reflection."

People often casually dismiss my expertise in a field I've been working in for 20 years. Everyone thinks they are an expert in transportation because they use it every day. I flush the toilet every day, but I do not second guess the plumber when it needs fixing. I just want them to fix it.

It was a real privilege to produce and edit this episode and I'm so grateful that Michelle DuBarry shared her story with me and our audience. This is a subject that doesn't exactly generate a ton of viral news stories but is hugely important. Give a listen and let me know what you think.

Today's bullshit sidewalk situation, on Quebec St, just north of Colfax, Denver's most heavily used bus route. We need the city to get the new sidewalk program up and running ASAP.

It's not surprising at all that yet another study found that pretty much any way of getting around other than driving a personal vehicle is better for the environment, but the assertion that the food eaten by people walking should be counted towards transportation GHG emissions is patently absurd.

A study of greenhouse gas from transit shows scooters are great, and buses are surprisingly lagging, Colorado State University researchers say.

The transportation system is failing me today. I just spent 20 minutes walking the long way to a bus stop, because the direct way is unsafe, waiting for a bus that didn't come, and then walking back home to drive. The problem isn't individual choices, it's the system that forces us into bad choices.

Eventually, thanks to the voter-approved Denver Deserves Sidewalks initiative, this bus stop will be connected to a sidewalk. But today, it still sucks.
