Happy World #Kidlit Month! My first #middlegrade read for the month is MURDER IN VELVET by Sarah Wynne, which debuts today! Huge congratulations to Sarah on the publication of your book. Everyone else: add this to your reading list! #newreleases #amreading #childrensbooks
Right. Thatās about all the screen time my eyes can stand for this week. Have a lovely Sunday, everyone! Iām off to avert an apocalypse via audiobook.
#Middlegrade chat Q5 ā WEATHER (snippet).
#Middlegrade chat Q4 ā Either Drum Roll Please by Lisa Jenn Bigelow (bisexual representation) or Time Travelling with a Hamster by Ross Welford (Syndactyly representation). Both would have caused a thunderclap of recognition if Iād read them as a child. I sorely lacked representation back then!
#Middlegrade chat Q3 ā Linear or leapfrog? Oh, I leapfrog around like itās going out of style. Scenes, chapters, even paragraphsā¦ absolutely nothing is written in order. Iām instead led by mood and topical inspiration. Fortunately, as Iām a planner, I can throw things back in order pretty quickly.
#Middlegrade Chat Q2 ā Chapter length! My draft chapters usually range about 3k / 3.5k words but by the time Iām finished editing, they average between 2k-2.5k words, which is what I usually aim for.
#Middlegrade Chat Q1 ā How is your writing week going? Ha! Poorly (as I am post-op so am using my eyes sparingly). However, I did manage to write three scenes over the week just by squinting through my left eye and using voice-to-text. Thatāsā¦ progress, right? The typos are Future!Kimās problem š
Iām back from my op! I still canāt see anything out of my right eye but itās early days yet. š¤ I have another six weeks to go until full recovery, so my messages will be intermittent. Thank you to everyone for your audiobook recommendations ā¤ļø Theyāre keeping me sane whilst I avoid print & screens.
Iām heading in for the Big Eye Operation today (which MIGHT restore vision to my right eyeāor make the blindness permanent, who knows?) Iāve stocked up on #audiobooks for the recovery period, starting with the full cast version of #GoodOmens, but I could always use more. Any recommendations?
