Dreamspinner Press is doing calls for submissions, so this is just a quick reminder that they stole a bunch of money from a lot of authors who have never been paid their outstanding royalties.
Back when queer romance hardly ever got reviews, I trusted Dreamspinner to always produce quality reading. It broke my heart to discover they had cheated some of my favorite authors.
I haven’t been keeping up with romance publishing as much lately ever since I shifted back to mostly genre SFF and horror, but I was active in M/M circles back when that happened. I was hoping that had all been resolved by now considering it’s been, what, 7 years?
They still haven't paid??? Awful company

Joke’s on— well, everyone, I guess. I don’t see how open submissions can come back, anywhere, for anything, unless authors agree to pay $$ to have their work read. (Which I am not endorsing! That’s terrible!)
Friends of mine spent literally YEARS fighting for their money, and I'm not sure they've been paid yet.
This is when I wish RWA hadn't been such a shit show and imploded. They could have and should have done something about it years ago when it first came to light. And the ones I feel for the most are baby/newbie writers who don't know the lay of the land don't have a support network yet to warn them
And got $258,000 dollars of government loans from the US equivalent of the COVID furlough scheme that they didn't have to pay back
You can of course choose to go with a publisher who screwed over a lot of authors by helping themselves to the royalty money but past behaviour predicts future performance, aka if *your* royalties mysteriously don't turn up, don't come crying to me.
