“there are a lot of employers who I feel use the medical system to monitor and legitimize their employee absenteeism” Sick notes are BS policing & wrong in an ongoing Covid pandemic. Workplaces should be encouraging sick to stay home & pay them to. It costs less than having more employees off sick
"The one-time license is an alternative for those who don't want to pay $69.99 annually for Microsoft 365."
If you're not a fan of the $69.99 annual fee for Microsoft 365, you can get a lifetime license for Microsoft's suite of apps for $149.99.
Possibly relevant to some people stuck using Word because the alternatives aren't good enough for their purposes: not only is it a one-time license, the standalone version does NOT have Copilot integration, which is honestly a selling point

Eh, I've found Open Office works great, is entirely free, and has (as yet) no AI bullshit.(On other platforms I think it's called Libre Office. Open source.)
If I did not have free access to the full Microsoft Suite via my employer, I would seriously consider this. Not having the AI integration is a good selling point, along with the lack of it being a subscription (gods I hate software subscriptions)

one of the primary jobs of republicans in government is to create disasters and to worsen disasters and then to use those disasters as a cudgel to destroy governmental services and emergency response
Around the world, Uber is slashing its drivers earnings so it can claim to be profitable. It’s using tech to find out which drivers are desperate enough to accept lower pay for trips and continuing to fight to make sure they’re contractors, not employees.
Read to the end for one of the worst photos of Elon Musk I’ve ever seen
