Long covid (by far the scariest part of the pandemic to me personally) is a lot harder to track over time but according to the data we have, it appears to be falling and the updated vaccines reduce incidence and severity. www.cambridge.org/core/journal...

I'm not so sure. Each new variant causes a new spike in infection rates (not 2020/21 levels, but still) and people are getting repeat infections now that most of the precautions have gone. Some studies suggest repeat infections lead to a higher chance of long covid.

I have to wonder about reporting on this. There has never been a concerted education campaign, and healthcare access is so region, economic based. I'm 4 years in with no let up, and personally know a few others 2 years in. One had no idea for over a year.

Some prospects here. One of the point seems pretty relevant: types of long covid. And it easy to predict that there is impact that a lot of patients do not relate to long covid.

If even one of these comes true, long COVID sufferers could enjoy some much-needed relief.

Not trying to be all Steven Pinker here. If you have long covid (and millions of people do!) the fact that it's less severe in the population doesn't help you. We need to do way more to prevent it and winters where 50,000 people die of covid are still horrific.

I’m probably over vaccinated (got Novavax as last one hopefully), but long Covid is scary. The fact that our Govt isn’t addressing this and many can’t work with it, is the cruel side of this pandemic.

Vaccine uptake in the states is going down afaik, new variants are evolving all the time (and not to become more mild) and repeated infections make you more likely to develop long covid. Being constantly ill has been normalised, and I think people are in denial. But maybe I've got it wrong

Subsequent reinfections will increase over time, and we don't know how bad that is for everyone other than that it's bad. There has been some recent coverage of this, but clearly not enough.

Common as they are, reinfections may have lasting impacts.

how good do you think the data actually is on this rn with the electoral pressures on interpretations?

Again they fail to differentiate between a longass case of covid, which the vaccines definitely help prevent, and actual long covid, which we lack data on because every single study does this shit.
