I write novels (eg The Power, new novel is The Future), I make games (eg Zombies, Run!), unorthodox Jew. not-getting-into-pointless-arguments-on-the-internet is an act of revolution. However complex you think things are, they're more complex than that

yeah. it just feels to me like "oh this is how the world is" because I was a teen and in my 20s in the 90s and 2000s and I think they were actually the absolute worst decades for fat-shaming maybe like... ever? obviously there has always been, and still is fat-shaming. but it was so so bad then.

and it kind of means I'm coming through the world with a cohort that grew up with that and also experienced it as totally normal and even GOOD, like "by being really mean to you, I'm helping you be healthy!" it was significantly less bad in eg the 50s than the 90s.

Honestly, it affected all of us so deeply. I’ve always been a size 10 but the only time I’ve ever felt comfortable and the “right size” was when I pregnant. It was depressingly liberating. Disgusted to report in my forties I still feel self conscious despite the valiant efforts of my rational brain

The 50’s were bad, and the ‘60’s, and the ‘70’s (Twiggy et. al). The ‘80’s were cocaine and heroin fueled, so everyone was skinny (except those of us who weren’t). The low rise jeans and all the pop tarts (Brittney Spears, Christina Aguilera, etc.) were skinny. Once the started to gain a little 1/2
