"The film breaks from a long tradition in Black cinema of relying on religion, and the forgiveness it demands, as an all-healing balm. Instead, it offers a raw and realistic portrayal of what it looks like to process childhood trauma well into adulthood."

Quote-replying to this because of how universal an experience this is for any high-achieving, marginalized person. It's not just sabotage/denigration, but a huge cope. When marginalized ppl don't stick to the script of being supporting cast, the mediocre explain it to themselves any way they can.

The history of clothing IS the history of human identity & social organization That it has been ghettoized and gendered as feminine & thus frivolous & Not Important is a regrettable consequence of long centuries of misogynistic bigotry in academia It's a huge blind spot about some magnificent art

circa 1400 - 1100 BCE Some of the clothing found with "Ötzi the iceman", whose mummified body was discovered on a melting Italian glacier in 1991. They include footed leggings made of goat skin, a coat made of patched together goat and sheep skin, netted shoe bindings made of cowhide, and a leather quiver made from roe deer leather.
1770s, Unknown artist, possiblyy Jeremias Schulz, Portrait of a Young Lady Holding an Orange Blossom. If it is by Schulz then she was a resident of Amsterdam.

A young Black woman in a turquoise blue silk satin gown in the fashion of the 1770s, with transparent lace sleeve cuffs and fichu and a lace cap with matching blue ribbon. She wears a double strand pearl choker and matching bracelets, and jeweled earrings.
Bannock Indians in Idaho, not sure of the date but it looks late 19th century. Men, women and a small girl wear a beautiful assortment of beaded, embroidered and fringed dress and jewelry.
An image of fashions from the May 1930 Shufu No Tomo ("Housewife's Friend") Magazine, Japan. A cyan-tinted black-and-white photo of three young Japanese women, all with marcel-waved bobbed hair and 1920s style makeup. Two women in traditional kimonos flank one in a cloche hat, short flapper style dress, and t-strap high-heeled shoes.
