Last nightshade haul for the summer. It's been a tough year for growing chillis due to all the wetness.

We are organizing workshop about "The Deformation of the #Lithospherelithodef25.sciencesconf.org#tectonics#geology ⚒️

Flyer announcing the workshop "The deformation of the lithosphere, state of the art and directions for the future". It shows 4 photos illustrating tectonic objects at different scales, and on the right a text that explain the reason of the workshop and summarize its organization.

Many of the issues faced by myself, my friends, and my colleagues is not because of 'science'. It's because of the systemic issues within academia: job insecurity, low wages, lack of jobs, rampant bullying, and toxic work environments.

I was reading this paper just now, and thought "the text is written in such a weird way", like, it could not even be explained as a "English as a second language" kind of problem. I get to the end, and found out why the text was weird. #AI#GenerativeAI 🧪

Just out of curiosity, how many of you continued with the same tool/topic after your PhD? (Not just in the same field/sub-discipline) #AcadmicSky

A lot of adverts coming in for tenured (assoc/full) profs in volcanology, but not in tenure-track. Why?

Recently @franzanth.bsky.social commissioned a print of my choice of local invertebrates in Indonesia. 🐡🧪 I chose the Great Mormon Butterfly because I thought its black/white/grey & red colour scheme was so graphic & would make a great print. Interestingly though, they don’t always look like this. 🧵

My linocut print ‘Great Mormon Butterfly on ixora’ shows a grey, white, black and red female alcanor form of Papilio memnon, a swallowtail butterfly above a red ixora flower with some green leaves and dark red buds. The print is made in ivory Japanese mulberry paper, 23.5 cm by 31.7 cm or 9.25” x 12.5”.

I accepted a job offer recently and will be moving to another country next year (stay tuned, still dealing with visa apps). In contrast to the huge amount of work I had to do myself to get to Belgium and then still left to my own devices for most of my fellowship... 1/2

Took me a while to understand that Git(Hub) isn't *meant* to be used as an archive of data (or even code tbh). Its explicitly designed to be for working and evolving code-bases (hence why it may seem confusing). Zenodo is more appropriate for static code/data.
