It seems the art thieving scammers are also operating here on Bluesky, so let me post a guide I made on how to avoid them on Twitter- They work very similarly here! Please RT for visibility! (1/6)
I.. don't have a comm sheet. Should I make one? I feel like I do a few of those things... I must be doing it wrong.
Wish I saw this sooner…
My go-to for seeing if someone’s legit is checking to see if they ever close their commissions. Real artists take breaks. Scammers never stop.
I've always wondered if someday there could be a project to set up a reliable artist's page/source. Only verified artists are added almost like an "open source" thing? not sure the specifics of what would need to be done.
I dug through my messages on Twitter I didn't bothered responding (some of them being suspicious and all that). There are many fitting your description. But one of them was a bit surprising to me, because somebody was making shootouts for them, visibly not caring if this is a scam or not.
I normally just respond with my carrd. I dotn do commission sheets since i price based on complexity rather than size of the piece. Should i still make a commission sheet at this point? I may have been seen as a bot :(
yippee, the vermin is spreading
There's also this ongoing list created by @bonnicula.bsky.socialbsky.app/profile/did:...
One of the biggest things I see is the exact same message with all of their posts that have art like "for my best client" and the preview watermark across the entire image but never a signature. Smart artists want their art seen and their work recognized and scammers don't
My rule of thumb is that a legit artist won't cold DM you. I charge a $20 cold call/dm fee, and it tends to scare them off. Taking a good look at the consistency my favorite tip you gave in the thread tbh.
