As a ttrpg GM what's one thing that players do that erks you? . . As a ttrpg Player what's one thing that GM's do that erks you ?
On either end, dealing with intolerance.
The things that irk me are the same for both players and GMs; they're more directed at players or GMs. Players who won't get on board with the theme and tone of the game, crack inappropriate jokes, take inappropriate actions, etc. GMs rolling against themselves. It's just wrong.
As a GM: Players flaking on showing up. As a Player: A GM not giving my character an opportunity to shine. For ex, a ranger’s favored enemies should occasionally show up.
As GM players who only get enjoyment from disrupting the game or other players. I get this happens, but I've had multiple people admit it's the only reason they play. As a Player it's when the GM acts like an arbitrator or referee with no vested interest in the game. Hands off GMing so to say
As a GM, players who don't prod and probe the world It is their character's world, it should not be an on rails attraction As a player, on rails games
As a player in a game of D&D once the GM decided to trap everyone in a dungeon where no divine magic worked for something like 3 months of game sessions. Only character with divine magic was my paladin. It was not fun to have all character abilities arbitrarily stripped away for an extended period.
Eating on zoom calls. It makes me want to tear my headphones from my head and hurl them across the room.
As Ref players who argue a ruling specifically to gain personal advantage. Not query a ruling which seems “off” in some way. That’s fine. Argues. For personal gain. As a player (cons only) a Ref who shows no sense of time. I know you’re enjoying showing off your creation but I’ve got get lunch.
As GM: players who refuse to read anything, especially the rules. As a player: GMs who run every single NPC as the same person, over and over again. I know it's not intentional but when every NPC has the same nervous tic, the same laugh, the same feigned accent, it gets old.
As a PBP GM, the one thing that irks me would definitely be not matching tense. If your GM is writing in present, please try to match tense 🙃
