Moderating a large number of ppl online is no easy task. 1: Clear guidelines. ✅ 2: Reporting system. ✅ 3: A team of dedicated mod, community mods, and AI to help enforce the rules. *Remains to be seen* And you need to do all that respecting the 1st amendment. Can't envy @jay.bsky.team Bsky team.
Community moderation will be effective if done on a small number of people, think subreddits. Bluesky's nirvana was right before the big influx of people last week. That size of the pool was perfect imo. People are disinsentivised to post abhorrent content when in smaller group.
To help keep Bluesky free and ad-free, maybe BSky should implement paying pennies to read news articles instead of all these subscriptions (similar to Twitter's plan) using a credit balance or similar. in addition to donations this may be sustainable.
What is the number one thing missing from Bluesky right now? For me its DMs.
This new social network is like a breath of fresh air. It's not just a platform for ads, audience capture, and political rants.
What do you think the official animal of Bluesky be?
I really hope Bluesky stays like this, free and ad-free. I think relying on donations or selling vanity items like skins, profile pics, etc is the way.
People/Organizations setting their own URL as their username handle on Bluesky will be the ultimate verification checkmark ✅.
