It's not the first time someone has been poisoning babies for profit. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2008_Ch... Unfortunately, it's also unlikely to be the last time.

This is similar to the melamine-milk contamination scandal in China many years ago. “Why would they add an obvious poison to milk?” Because milk quality is in part determined by protein content to ensure it hasn’t been diluted. And protein % is checked by measuring nitrogen, and this is melamine:

Melamine molecule with six nitrogen atoms, six hydrogen atoms and three carbon atoms

Punishment should be severe as this is lifelong damage that will affect the entire society. Anyone remember the melamine in infant formula? It registered as a protein. It was literally killing infants.

I don’t think prison is the right punishment for most criminals, but for these people, who definitely will not go to prison, it’s the only thing I can think of that isn’t just violent revenge

It was probably small-scale cinnamon growers or distribution middle-men adulterating the cinnamon. But large corporate buyers KNOW that this happens sometimes and have a responsibility to test the ingredients they buy.

These "people" should get the death penalty, and we taxpayers ought to save some money by skipping the whole trial part. This is the worst kind of crime.
