I'd love to keep my grass tall but my HOA is full of lunatics that want a golf course wasteland. They would have an aneurysm if they saw my backyard. Seeing all of the bugs and pollinators makes me happy 😊

From a hort-sci background: please don't bag & toss your cut grass when you mow, if you want your soil to be healthy. Soil carbon oxidizes and erodes; it's not permanent, it needs to be replaced. Decaying plant matter does this, and simultaneously feeds the ecosystem of your soil.

I've been replacing my yard with clover, and whatever else can out-compete thistles and dandelions. Grass is absolute shit. Since giving up on it, my yard has gotten more flowers, more bees, more snakes, and more green.

ALSO, my HOA-mandated oak tree sprouts seedlings, burs get tracked into the house to be stepped on, fleas find a safe haven, the neighbors blackberry sprouts in my yard, as does their mint, and the lawn person charges twice as much this week because it's "overgrown."

Nah it’s a space for me and my family to hang out in. Play catch, play bocci, and have bond fires. Not everyone’s property has to be some ecological masterpiece with the sole purpose of helping insects to have a home. So tired of this lawn shaming trend

my garden is just plants that pollinators love. it is doing so well have preying mantises (mantisi?). Lots of buzzy bees and healthy earthworms too.

I wish I had a picture of my wasteland of a lawn. It’s just three types of weeds and brown.
