Again: With all respect to Alan Moore's stances on uses of his work, the 2019 Watchmen series is fucking Good. Like, I end up rewatching it every June, if not at the start, on the actual Tulsa anniversary, then Definitely by the time Juneteenth rolls around.

I said this elsewhere, but it’s amazing how well you can do with a beloved property when you start from the position not of “how can I recreate the feeling of reading this for the first time as a teenager” (lol, you cannot) but by asking “well, what did this _miss_?”

The connection of the original Watchmen to a conversation about the racist history of the United States, in general, but Policing, the "Lost Cause" myth, and mid-20th century American support for Fascism, in particular? Frankly fucking masterful. bsky.app/profile/did:...

Yes, it is a shame that DC and Warner ratfucked him so many times in a row that he no longer has any good feelings about any of the work he did for them.

I‘ve learnt so much from this. And from the official Podcast where Damon even did a Mini-Bookclub with some further reading. I‘ve never never expected anything like this from a tv show.

The thing that got under my skin (as a Comanche) was the way we were both referred to (Feats of Comanche Horsemanship) and left out. Bass Reeves rode with Comanche law man Permansu. The histories of Black and Indigenous people are inseparable.

I shined a massive spotlight on something most of the country had never heard of, and needed to.

I need to rewatch, but yes, I was blown away by the HBO series. I’ve largely avoided reading commentary about the ending, because I found it impossibly, devastatingly bleak and I didn’t want to spoil that—but I googled now and found it fascinating that Lindelhof apparently didn’t intend it that way

didnt finish it but i do think it was smarter to do their own thing instead of just retelling the same story thats been retold already and already exists in the medium it was designed to comment on.

Regina King's performance throughout the show made me a lifetime fan. She's amazing. The show was fantastic. It really bothers me that DC has to repackage and reprint the book every year just to maintain the rights to the property. Lindelof made a great homage to the original series.

Alan Moore's point was that comic book heroes are never really heroes & that the idea of such is not much different than dreaming of living in a world where fascists make everything okay His problem with the 2019 series is that it followed the path he was criticizing (much worse in the movie)
