It’s worth saying that the forecasts from NOAA’s National Hurricane Center are an absolutely vital, life-saving national resource. It would be a tragedy if Trump’s Project 2025 plan to disembowel NOAA and commercialize all its forecasting operations came to fruition.

unbelievable. a right-wing donor and member of the board of visitors has basically pressured UVA into suspending the University Guide Service, a highly-regarded student org that runs tours, because it tells prospective students and their parents that Jefferson was a slaveholder.

The Guide Service is a student-run organization on Grounds that gave admissions and historical tours to prospective students, families and visitors.

It's hard to understate just how big the declines in 2023 (as estimated by @jeffasher.bsky.social) and potentially in 2024 (as predicted by the midyear MCCA data) really are. Unprecedented drops in modern history. And, relatively speaking? Absolute crickets when it comes to coverage.
