Reality denial (and it’s wee brother “indifference”) is a category of thought that always goes hand in hand with stopping doing something you like. Burning fossil fuels, smoking, eating meat, guns, racist jokes. If not caring isn’t enough you’ve got to make up stories to excuse your actions.
