Spotted sun orchids (Thelymitra ixioides) in open grassland near Genoa, VIC. Flowers on this impressive sp. are much less temperamental then many other local sun orchids and are often still open well into the afternoon (which is handy for photos!) #orchids#ozplants#spring#inthefield#Australia

Early spring roadside orchids out near Mallacoota, VIC this week. Only a few scattered plants in flower at this spot but still worth stopping the car to see spotted donkeys, waxlips + several Caladenias (dusky & white fingers) growing close together. #orchids#inthefield#ozplants#biodiversity

First duck orchid of the spring starting to take flight near Genoa, VIC. These large duck orchids (Caleana major) are fairly common around Mallacoota most years but usually more into Oct. Only saw the one early flower on the one plant this trip. #inthefield#orchids#ozplants#biodiversity

Small mosquito orchids (Acianthus pusillus) on the edge of Croajingolong NP, VIC. Very small flowers on these winter orchids - almost the same size as the actual mozzies in these parts ;) Out a little bit later than usual this yr in late June at this location #orchids#winter#inthefield#Australia

Coralloid fungi (Ramaria lorithamnus?) emerging from the forest floor on Genoa Peak, Croajingolong NP, VIC. Lots of winter fungi up and about in East Gippsland at the moment after recent rain. #Fungi#Winter#InTheField#EastGippsland#Biodiversity#Ecology#Photography#Nature

First quick East Gippsland winter orchid scout of the year came up with quite a few plants out - but only a few nodding greenhoods (Pterostylis nutans) actually in flower near Gipsy Point, VIC. But so far it looks like there'll be more out this yr than last #winter#orchids

A few more bioluminescent ghost fungi (Omphalotus nidiformis) are starting to appear around Corunna, NSW after a week of rain - including this big fella (trusty Tobisho SR-2s for scale). Might pop back tonight for a couple of bioglow photos if the rain eases off a bit ... #fungi#autumn

Grevillea stenomera (grafted/garden) Corunna, NSW. The flowers on this rare/vulnerable WA sp. are not that showy but it's an outstanding accent foliage plant with fine blue/grey leaves. Grafted plants can do well in summer humidity - unfortunately rarely seen in nurseries #ozplants#grevilleas
