I don't minimize the politically motivated assault on higher education. And perhaps we can't achieve anything. But I view myself as (one of many) a keeper of a 2,400 year old living tradition of historical inquiry, so I must try to defend it however I can, with whatever success I can muster.
As someone who wrote a book, a few journal articles, and a bunch of blog posts on democratic breakdown before shifting my focus several years ago to U.S. protest activity, I'll say: this is very good, and I hope lots of people read it.
