i don't know as much about PSL, but my understanding is that many of these same dynamics are at play there. fyi if you were gonna join one of those, PSL is 1000x better than CPUSA because they have at least been on the frontlines of palestine protests since october

real democratic centralism is the heart of democracy, and one of the things DSA needs to improve at is implementing democratic centralism, but what CPUSA does under that name is an absurd caricature of it

CPUSA has a system where the current leadership picks the slate of candidates for leadership at their conventions, so incoming leadership are always going to be ideologically aligned with current leadership (context: their leadership are enthusiastic biden/kamala supporters)

the biggest upside of DSA is that it's actually pretty democratic. if you can convince people on a wide scale, you can actually change the org by doing so (as opposed to CPUSA/PSL which are designed to prevent member control of the organization)

the most legit competing theory for what ML's should do (imo) is many people forming a lot of small local organizations and trying to merge them upward over time, but i just don't think that will really happen (CPUSA is a joke that's somehow to the right of even most of DSA's rightists)

i had a thought in my mind for a while after i actually radicalized: the ravenous supporters of the CPUSA (patsocs and such) are basically meme stock fanatics but redbaiting

My grandparents genuinely liked him, and he's pretty much the only NY politician they said that about. They had a long list of complaints about just about all of them, including FDR for slow-walking the fight against fascism; Grandpa was literally a CPUSA member until the Soviets invaded Poland.

No reason to be defensive about CPUSA, every group has true and false claims surrounding them. I prefer to judge on the basis of what each chapter is like instead of always pointing at national orgs and or politics. Always think local.
