I wish I could find the piece of research I read a few years ago that out-of-control anger leading to mental health problems on the internet isn't caused by "echo chambers". It's caused by rapidly and without any context encountering a huge number of views that are wildly different to your own.

Happy for people to jump in with a counterpoint, but I believe the “Blue Sky will never work with just nice people” argument is tosh. There was a time when you’d see the Neo Nazis on The Blues Brothers (or similar) and just think “what stupid people” rather than believe they should have a voice.

The thing that all these “Bluesky is an echo chamber” takes leave out is that most of us aren’t here for political or philosophical debates with strangers. Mostly it’s to socialize with friends and talk shit about stupid things. Having a Nazi yelling at you doesn’t enhance that experience.
